Q&A with the Council Candidates

1423

The Ferguson Municipal Election is scheduled for April 2, 2024 and each of Ferguson’s three wards will hold an election for the selection of one council member for each ward. Questions were solicited from the public by a post in the I Care About Ferguson Facebook group.

All candidates were asked to participate by responding to a set of questions to be sent to them. Two candidates, Blake Ashby and Phedra Nelson, did not respond to the two emails sent to their city council email asking them to respond with a personal or campaign email that could be used for campaign activities. (Note: City resources cannot be used for campaign purposes, sp no questions were sent to those email addresses.) Naquittia Noah did provide a campaign email address to receive the questions. However, at the time the responses were due Noah responded “Unfortunately I won’t be a participant. I have been advised to not participant per the city attorney.”

The Ferguson Observer received responses from five candidates, all of which are linked below. Responses have not been edited, although layout and spacing may have been adjusted.

Please note that questions were solicited by Sara Holmes and none were shared with any candidate until emailed to the whole group of those who had responded (David Williams, Erica M. Brooks, Jamil Franklin, Nick Kasoff, and Mika Covington). Blake Ashby and Phedra Nelson never received the questions as they did not respond to emails to their city email addresses asking to provide a suitable contact email for campaign purposes. Nick Kasoff is an editor for the Ferguson Observer but, as noted, was given no advantage and did not receive the the questions until the time all candidates were given them.
